The photographs were taken by an distinguished Warsaw photographer who documented post-war transformations of the city and its inhabitants‘ everyday life. Siemaszko photographed Warsaw in the period of incredibly dynamic reconstruction. One could also sense a breath of fresh air after the years of Stalinism. Warsaw in his photographs is the city that is coming to life, dynamic, and vibrant. The choice of themes and conscious aestheticization conjure up the image of the 1950s and 1960s Warsaw which, with hindsight, appears to be very attractive and compelling today. We can see new districts, modernist buildings, newly opened cafés and shops (including Constitution Square, Muranów district, CDT Department Store, Supersam, Warszawa Gdańska station and the like) as well as the neons, growing in number, the sign of a modern city. One can also see cars and buses, urban design, shop and home furnishings, that is to say - the design of the time which is coming back into fashion today.
