The album contains over 100 photographs selected from the author’s extensive archive. These are primarily the photographs dating back to the start of his career when he cooperated with such magazines as “Stolica”, “Polska”, “Ty i ja” and “Przekrój”. These include black-and-white photos, both informative and artistic in nature, documentary photographs, celebrity portraits (including Zbigniew Cybulski, Ewa Demarczyk, Kalina Jędrusik, Tadeusz Kantor, Tadeusz Konwicki, Alina Szapocznikow, Włodzimierz Borowski), as well as fashion photographs. The album Tadeusz Rolke. Warsaw Photographs is a multi-layered tale of the capital city in the 1950s and 1960s, from the images of the war-stricken capital reduced to rubble, rebuilt in the socialist realism art form, through the stories of city life, fascination with fashion, beautiful girls, lambretta motor scooters, to the record of the city’s artistic and social life, portraits of eminent cultural and artistic figures. These clash with the photographs of communist politicians, propaganda slogans, and the portraits of Marx, present in the cityscape.
