It depicts the Great War in the eastern territories that formerly were part of the country, the area of today’s Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, and Ukraine, seen mainly from the perspective of German and Austrian photographers. There is genuine, often unique, iconography (photographs, postcards, documents, maps, and medals) from the author’s collection, which amounts to several dozen thousand artefacts. Previously unpublished excerpts from soldiers‘ correspondence are the further merit of the album.
