The author of the colour photographs presented in the album is Henry N. Cobb, who, together with a group of western architects, visited England, Czechoslovakia, and Poland in 1947 to see the progress in bringing war-torn towns back to life. The photographs were taken in Warsaw, Szczecin, Wrocław, Katowice, and Piekary Śląskie among others. 1947 was a breakthrough year in the post-war reconstruction plan. Those were the last months when architects and urbanists enjoyed relative independence in planning. The authors of the album compared the photographs of destroyed buildings with their designs which were to be executed.
